UCEAP Global Scholarship

Spring 2025

UCEAP offers scholarships for students of all backgrounds and majors, and for all kinds of study abroad programs. All UC students participating on a UCEAP program are eligible to apply for a UCEAP Global Scholarship. The award selections will be primarily based on academic merit and integration of a selected UCEAP program into a student’s academic and career goals, as demonstrated in a personal statement. $1,000 for summer or $2,000 for fall, spring, winter and year terms abroad will be distributed to those selected by a competitive review process.

  27. Global Statement of Purpose 2025

    Please answer the following questions. Keep your answers focused, with concise and clear writing, proper grammar, and accurate spelling. Be specific about your individual reasons for studying abroad. Have someone review your answers with these requirements in mind. We strongly advise all students to take advantage of writing resources available on campus.
    • 1. Statement of Academic Preparation (200 - 300 words)

      Tell us about your academic preparation for your time abroad. Explain how your major or focus of study is related to your host country and the opportunities available there. What courses have you taken to prepare for your program?

      The preferred qualification for the scholarship is a 3.0 GPA. If you have a GPA below 3.0, please use the Statement of Academic Preparation to explain why your GPA is below the requirement.
    • 2. Statement of Language Study (Optional - 150 words or less)

      If your program is taught in a language other than English, what experience do you have with that language and how have you prepared to take advantage of your courses abroad? If your program is taught in English, but you will live in a country where English is not the primary language, explain what you have done to prepare to live in this environment.

      How will studying abroad help you achieve your future academic and career goals? What examples of knowledge, skills, and experiences will you draw on to meet the challenges of going abroad?
    • 4. Study Abroad Specific Opportunities (250 words or less)

      Why did you select your specific UCEAP program and host country? What do you hope to experience while abroad? Be detailed in your answers; demonstrate that you have researched the program/country where you will be studying.
    • 5. Student Characteristics (200 – 300 words)

      Are you a student with financial need? How do you intend to fund your program (are you receiving grants or loans)? Do you identify with a cohort that is traditionally underrepresented on study abroad programs? Have you experienced other barriers that have impacted your decision and ability to study abroad?

      Traditionally underrepresented students on UCEAP programs include, but are not limited to:
      - students who have transferred to the UC from a community college or state university
      - veterans
      - first-generation college students
      - students who spend a full year abroad (two semesters or three quarters)
      - students from nontraditional ages and backgrounds
    • 6. Study Abroad Interest (100 words or less)
