Dr. Nancy Dale Nieman Scholarship

UCEAP Dr. Nancy Dale Nieman Scholarship Winter/Spring 2027 – $2,500 (UCEAP Program in Spanish-Speaking Country)
For students who are participating in a UCEAP program in a Spanish-Speaking country during the winter/spring quarters or spring semester and who have transferred to the UC with four semesters of college level Spanish prior to their UCEAP program.

The Dr. Nancy Dale Nieman Scholarship for Study in Spanish-Speaking Countries provides two $2,500 awards yearly to outbound UCEAP participants who have transferred to the UC with four semesters of college level Spanish prior to their program. This scholarship intends to support transfer students from California Community Colleges to a University of California institution who apply to study, do research, complete an internship, or a specific project in a Spanish-speaking country. Excluded are activities in the Catalan speaking region of Spain (including Barcelona).

Award: $2,500

You can pair the UCEAP Dr. Nancy Dale Nieman Scholarship with a Yearlong Scholarship, a Social Media Scholarship, and any outside or campus awards. The only restriction is that it cannot be combined with other UCEAP systemwide scholarships.

Eligibility
To be considered for a scholarship, you must:
-Meet the core eligibility requirements
-Be a transfer to the UC with four semesters of college level Spanish prior to their program.
-One year of high school Spanish equals one semester of college Spanish. Any combination of high school and college Spanish is acceptable.
-Heritage Spanish-Speakers may complete two semesters of Heritage Spanish instead.
-Preference will be given to students who have transferred from Santa Monica City College.
-Plan to study abroad on a UCEAP program in a Spanish-speaking country and ultimately be selected.

About the Donor
Dr. Nancy Dale Nieman is a professor emeritus in the department of Spanish at Santa Monica College. Dr. Nieman has her B.A. from Beloit College, her M.A. in Middlebury College and her Ph.D. from the University of Madrid in Spain.
