Theda Shapiro Scholarship

UCEAP Theda Shapiro Scholarship Winter/Spring 2027 – $2,500 (Any UCEAP Program)
For students who are studying a foreign language and plan to study abroad on any UCEAP program during the winter/spring quarters or spring semester.

The Theda Shapiro Scholarship supports students studying a foreign language and who are planning to study abroad on any UCEAP program. Three scholarships of $2,500 each will be offered yearly to students participating in a winter/spring quarter or spring semester UCEAP program.

Award: $2,500

You can pair the UCEAP Theda Shapiro Scholarship with a Yearlong Scholarship, a Social Media Scholarship, and any outside or campus awards. The only restriction is that it cannot be combined with other UCEAP systemwide scholarships.

Eligibility
To be considered for a scholarship, you must:
-Meet the core eligibility requirements.
-Plan to study in a UCEAP program and ultimately be selected.

-Complete the UCEAP Scholarship Form.
-Submit a Global Scholarship Application (Candidates will be selected internally from top-ranking Global Scholarship applications).
-Tailor your statement of purpose responses to reflect your passion for language study.

About the Donor
An urban historian who studied and lived in Venice and Paris prior to moving to UC Riverside in 1969, Dr. Theda Shapiro taught French and Italian history, language, and culture for 40 years. During that time, she also worked closely with UCEAP over two decades, serving in many capacities including Associate Dean.
